Ever since I have lived in the United States, I have always sensed the level of subtle marketing and propaganda in the western world in corporate or political life, and foreign policy. Generally the propaganda is subtle rather than explicit. The reason it is subtle is because western population is educated, politically aware, and the democracies have good controls on abuse of power. Raw propaganda can backfire.
Comparatively, India has been free of propaganda. But that changed since the rise of Hindutva in 1989 when RSS weaponized Hindutva into a political tool using Ram Mandir as an issue. With relatively uneducated, politically less aware, and poor population as well as a government system with weak controls on abuse of power RSS/BJP have been able to successfully spread raw fascist propaganda using its well organized volunteer base. Indian middle class seems to have succumbed to Hindutva idelogoy as evident by BJP winning elections one of another since 2014 to 2019. It is dangerous and does not bode well for India's future.
In this article, I would like to analyze Hindutva propaganda and propose strategies to overcome it. All progressive people, organizations, and political parties are welcome to copy and follow these strategies to the extent they find them useful.
